Kurt – Drums

kurt

Quick bio

I grew up in Coatesville and graduated from Coatesville Senior
High in the ‘89. I’ve been playing drums since the 5th grade. My dad
played drums, my cousins played drums as well as my brother…it was only natural to start drumming!!!!! My first “band” was in the 8th grade and we were called the Midevil Knights and we never practiced ONCE!!! But we were cool! My first actual “playing” band was “ARUS” and stayed in that band for the next 10 or 15 years. With ARUS, I ended up moving to Hollywood, CA to try to “make it”. One of the best times of my life!! But ended up moving home, graduating college (West Chester Univ) and getting married to my super-mega-hot wife, April. Been married now for 14 years and have 3 amazing kids! When I’m not a Rock Star on the weekends, my “day” job is working for a Pharmaceutical Co. in the Exton area. I also teach drums out of my house on week nights. We always have music on at the house and the kids love it! Without music, I’d go nuts! (more than I already am!) My wife plays the Flute and our oldest is following in her footsteps and doing a great job of it! All three of my kids love jamming on the drums too but I hope they play the flute (or something light) so I don’t have to carry their crap around when they get older! HA!

For as long as I can remember I have LOVED playing the drums. I try to learn anything I can about the drums themselves, other drummers and just music in general. I’m a drumming whore and try to collect as much drum “stuff” as I can. I currently have 4 drum sets at home with over 8 different snare drums and more cymbals than I can count. Luckily I have a very supportive wife who tolerates my habit! Hey, I could be buying CRACK instead right??!! Anyone looking to off-load some drum gear (especially vintage), just let me know!!!!

I have very broad music tastes. I listen to anything from Prince to Iron Maiden to Tom Petty to Porcupine Tree to Harry Connick Jr to Flock of Seagulls to Phish! But if you must know…I’m a total Metal-Head at heart!!!! But playing the funk that we do is just so much fun! Love watching people dance and groove along with us!

I’m also love to sit down and watch movies. I like to think I’m a funny guy and am a HUGE fan of comedies, just ask Rhys, I make him pee his pants at every rehearsal (sometimes gigs too). I will spout out quotes all day long from any Will Ferrell movie and tons of others. Like my wife says….”If you could only use your brain for good!”

Useless info about me

  • Dream Car: Hummer (the car you perverts!)
  • Favorite Animal: Jack-a-lope
  • Favorite Color: Purple
  • Favorite food: Scrapple
  • Favorite sport: Football (Co-ed naked Curling comes in a close second)
  • Favorite commercial: The one around x-mas time where the parents are inside watching the kids outside in the snow and the dad says, “I’m not going out there….it’s freezing out there!”
  • Past Job: Worked at Musician’s Institute in Hollywood, CA. One of my ALL TIME fav. jobs EVER!!!! Getting paid to set up drums, play drums, watch “big time” musicians come in for clinics and just soaking in all that music was amazing!!! Got to meet a TON of great drummers including many of my drumming heroes!

  • What annoys me

People on cell phones while driving!!!! People who when
it rains think they can only drive 12 miles an hour. People who can’t
drive in snow. (can you see the pattern here…stuff with driving). I
also can’t stand negative people! Negativity breeds negativity. Life’s
too short….cheer the freak up and look for the positive things in life
you rat bastards!!! OH, and those friggin’ people who leave you a
voicemail and when they go to leave you their phone number they rattle it off like it’s an Olympic event and you have to repeat the voicemail like 538 times to get the full number!

    Final thoughts

I can’t wait to start playing nursing homes since the rest
of the guys in the band are almost in them! HA Just kidding, I love
playing out and seeing people get down and groove with us every week. Thank you to all who come out to the gigs and keep us playing every weekend! May the groove be with you!
